Position Summary

Our client, a major player in the utilities and renewable energy sector, is looking to add a motivated and detail-oriented Project Estimator II to its project estimating team. This entry-level role offers strong growth potential for someone looking to build a career in project estimating.




The successful candidate will prepare and manage cost estimates across a range of projects, with a focus on accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with organisational goals. Day-to-day work includes leading and preparing estimates, developing pricing models, and evaluating new technologies. The team covers a broad portfolio, including wind, utility-scale solar, distributed solar, energy storage, transmission and distribution lines, substations, water treatment, 5G and fibre, hydrogen, pipelines, and fossil generation, giving the successful candidate plenty of room to expand their skillset.







Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed project cost estimates, including conceptual, preliminary, and definitive estimates for new and existing projects.
  • Perform conceptual engineering design and develop preliminary construction plans to support estimating scope quantification.
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to gather and analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation in order to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Carry out value engineering analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and meeting project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain estimating tools, databases, and methodologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the cost estimating process.
  • Conduct risk assessments and build contingency plans to account for potential project uncertainties.
  • Present cost estimates and value engineering options to senior management, project stakeholders, and clients.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure the best value for the company.
  • Track project costs and variances throughout the project lifecycle, updating estimates as needed to reflect changes in scope, design, or market conditions.
  • Ensure all estimating activity complies with company policy, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.







Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Internship or practical experience in construction management, engineering, or a related field is a plus.







Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team and take direction from senior team members.
  • Keen to learn and grow professionally within project estimating.
  • Experience with cost estimation software (e.g. PlanSwift, WinEst, CostX, or similar) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project or Primavera P6 is preferred.
  • Comfortable in a standard office environment, with occasional travel to project sites for meetings, inspections, and collaboration with on-site teams.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment based primarily out of a corporate office.
