About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Validation & Metrology Engineer to join our growing Quality team in a high-precision medical device manufacturing environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced metrology professional to take ownership of our measurement systems, inspection technologies, and dimensional validation processes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing robust metrology solutions, designing inspection fixtures, programming Micro-Vu vision measurement systems using MicroView software, conducting Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a highly technical position that will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, repeatability, and reliability of our inspection processes while supporting the manufacture of world-class orthopaedic medical devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and validate custom metrology and inspection fixtures for precision components.
- Develop, optimise and maintain MicroView programs for Micro-Vu optical CMM systems.
- Create efficient and repeatable automated inspection routines for complex machined components.
- Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R, bias, linearity and stability studies.
- Perform statistical analysis using Minitab to evaluate process capability and measurement performance.
- Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI), process validation and new product introduction activities.
- Develop and maintain inspection methods, work instructions and validation documentation.
- Investigate dimensional non-conformances and support root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to improve inspection capability and measurement efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, metrology innovation and process optimisation.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA requirements and internal Quality Management System procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in precision metrology or quality engineering.
- Strong experience programming Micro-Vu systems using MicroView software.
- Extensive knowledge of optical and tactile CMM inspection techniques.
- Experience designing metrology and inspection fixtures.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional analysis.
- Practical experience conducting MSA and Gage R&R studies.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis using Minitab.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Experience within medical device, orthopaedic, aerospace or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
- Orthopaedic Experience is a distinct advantage
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 and FDA Quality System requirements.
- Experience with validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with additional CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso or Mitutoyo MCOS.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent qualification.
