Communications Officer – Short‑Term Contract

Seeking an experienced Communications Officer to provide short‑term cover within a local council Strategic Communications team.
This role will support corporate communications activity, media engagement and project communications during a period of leave.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing corporate content, including media releases, statutory publications and social media content
- Managing and responding to media enquiries, supporting strategic media outreach and media relationships
- Providing communications support for projects, services, engagement and advocacy programs
- Supporting Council leadership with speechwriting, including content for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor
- Developing communication plans and producing engaging written content across multiple channels
- Strong experience in communications, media, journalism or public relations
- Excellent writing, editing and speechwriting skills
- Comfortable managing media enquiries and issues in a fast‑paced environment
- Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Local government experience is advantageous but not essential
- Current Police Check
- Current Working With Children Check
