Mechanical Assembler:

The Automotive Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames. This position is located in Kansas City, KS and reports to the Plant Manager.

Position Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform a wide range of fitting, assembly, installation, and alignment tasks involving complex components while meeting exact engineering tolerances and operational requirements.

  • Complete work outlined in build request orders efficiently and accurately, in accordance with engineering standards.

  • Assemble all units consistently while adhering to established quality standards.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine assembly sequence, tooling needs, measurements, and allowable tolerances.

  • Fabricate and install piping, stainless steel lines, and air lines.

  • Fabricate and install 12V/24V electrical systems.

  • Build a variety of parts and install boxes and specialized components according to truck design specifications.

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using measuring tools such as rulers, squares, and measuring tapes.

  • Align and fit parts using jacks, wedges, turnbuckles, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.

  • Position and secure components using braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, bolt straps, and fasteners.

  • Move parts into position manually or with hoists and cranes as needed.

  • Accurately document all work performed.

  • Use and maintain shop tools and personal equipment required to complete assemblies, repairs, and inspections.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and remain accountable for tools at all times.

  • Ensure customer trucks and equipment are kept clean and well-maintained.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic blueprints and schematic drawings.

  • Possession of high-quality mechanical tools, including an upright rolling toolbox.

  • Familiarity with shop tools and equipment such as torque wrenches and impact tools.

  • Working knowledge of safety requirements and the ability to consistently follow safe work practices.

  • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with all departments.

  • Strong time management, planning, organization, and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to work assigned shifts, arrive on time, and comply with all attendance policies.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of two years of mechanical or heavy equipment experience, including the use of mechanical tools.

  • Experience working with electrical systems, including 12V/24V systems.
