Director of Development - Higher education institution

We are supporting a higher education institution in the search for their Director of Development. Reporting to senior leadership, this role will lead a dedicated team and take overall responsibility for shaping and delivering the institution’s fundraising strategy in support of its long-term priorities. The Director will be required to have strong cross‑functional coordination skills, effective donor engagement, and the capacity to establish fundraising approaches that are sustainable over time.

Responsibilities:

• Setting the overall direction for fundraising activities and translating institutional objectives into practical funding plans
• Building long‑term partnerships with individuals, companies, and philanthropic organizations
• Expanding the donor pipeline by researching new prospects and determining effective ways to engage them
• Driving significant giving initiatives and ensuring donors are appropriately recognized and informed over time
• Partnering with internal stakeholders to shape cases for support, proposals, and donor communications
• Taking ownership of fundraising channels and tools, including online giving, digital campaigns, and related communications
• Reviewing performance data to assess effectiveness and refine fundraising approaches
• Leading, coaching, and supporting a team to deliver consistent and high‑quality fundraising outcomes

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Substantial professional background in fundraising, communications, or external relations, ideally gained within a university or non‑profit environment
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams effectively
• Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills, with full professional fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin)
• The capability to think strategically, exercise good judgment, and work productively with a wide range of stakeholders
• Confidence in using digital tools, CRM systems, and fundraising-related platforms
• A hands‑on, inventive, and well‑organized approach to developing solutions and nurturing long‑term partnerships
