An opportunity is available for a senior finance leader to step into a high-impact executive role within a large, complex public sector environment.

This role will lead a multi-functional financial accounting and operations group responsible for financial operations, statutory and financial reporting, taxation, transactional services, asset accounting, financial controls, and service delivery improvement.

The position is suited to an experienced finance executive who can provide strategic leadership, strengthen governance and controls, improve financial service delivery, and provide trusted advice to senior executives.

About the role

You will be responsible for leading a large finance function and ensuring the effective delivery of financial accounting, operational finance, reporting, taxation, asset accounting, financial systems, compliance and advisory services.

A key focus of the role will be reshaping the finance service delivery model to be more contemporary, client-focused and centre-led, while ensuring strong alignment with whole-of-government requirements, statutory obligations and accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction across financial accounting and operations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, controls and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee financial systems, accounting data quality, reporting accuracy and financial analysis.
  • Lead preparation of governance reports, annual financial statements and statutory reporting.
  • Direct financial accounting, taxation, transactional services and asset accounting activities.
  • Strengthen asset accounting processes across a significant asset portfolio.
  • Build robust financial risk, compliance, assurance and governance frameworks.
  • Provide trusted strategic and operational financial advice to senior executives.
  • Manage service level agreements with external agencies and outsourced providers.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across internal and external groups.
  • Lead, develop and uplift team capability, performance and service culture.

About you

You will bring senior finance leadership experience from a large and complex organisation, ideally with exposure to public sector financial management. You will be confident leading teams, influencing senior stakeholders, improving financial controls, and driving change across a complex operating environment.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Extensive experience leading a multi-functional finance team or financial operations function.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, statutory reporting, taxation, fixed assets and transactional services.
  • Public sector financial management experience, ideally within a government or highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformation, service improvement and governance uplift.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance, risk and assurance frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and executive advisory skills.
  • Experience developing high-performing teams and improving finance capability.
  • CPA or CA qualifications, highly regarded.
