Water Hygiene Technician

Location: Slough / Watford area

Salary: £29,000–£35,000 depending on experience

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, with overtime and occasional weekend/out-of-hours work available

Are you an experienced Water Hygiene Technician looking for a new opportunity with an established company that will invest in your training and development?

A leading UK provider of water hygiene and compliance services is looking for a Water Hygiene Technician to join its established field-based team, covering the Slough and surrounding areas.

This is a varied role where you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, water monitoring and sampling, TMV servicing, tank cleaning and basic remedial works across a range of commercial and residential sites.

The role

As a Water Hygiene Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) work to support effective Legionella control.
  • Monitoring temperatures across hot and cold water systems.
  • Carrying out water sampling for microbiological analysis.
  • Shower cleaning and descaling.
  • Cold water storage tank cleaning and disinfection.
  • Inspecting water systems, including tanks, calorifiers and associated plant.
  • Carrying out TMV inspections and servicing.
  • Undertaking basic remedial plumbing works, including dead-leg removal and TMV replacements.
  • Identifying and reporting potential compliance issues and non-conformances.
  • Providing clear and accurate job reports using a digital compliance system.
  • Liaising professionally with clients and site personnel.
  • Reporting any site issues or remedial requirements to the office.
  • Working closely with the wider team where larger remedial works are required.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, method statements and health and safety requirements.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience within water hygiene, water treatment, Legionella compliance or a related technical environment.

You should have:

  • Good knowledge of hot and cold domestic water systems.
  • Experience carrying out water hygiene PPM work.
  • Experience with temperature monitoring and water sampling.
  • Knowledge of TMVs and water system components.
  • A proactive approach to identifying potential compliance issues.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with clients.
  • The ability to work independently when carrying out PPM visits.
  • A willingness to undertake additional training and develop your technical skills.

A City & Guilds qualification relevant to water hygiene, plumbing qualifications or similar technical certification would be advantageous, but training and development will be provided for the right candidate.

Basic plumbing knowledge would also be beneficial, particularly experience with small remedial works such as dead-leg removal, TMV replacement and expansion vessel configuration.

What you'll get

  • £29,000–£35,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • Permanent Monday-to-Friday position.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Mobile phone.
  • Laptop and required software.
  • All tools and equipment required for the role.
  • Full PPE.
  • Vehicle recovery assistance.
  • Ongoing health and safety training.
  • Full induction and structured training.
  • Access to further external training and industry qualifications.
  • Opportunities to develop your career within the water hygiene and compliance sector.
  • Overtime and weekend work available for those who want to increase their earnings.

The working environment

This is a field-based role and no two days are necessarily the same. You could be carrying out routine PPM and sampling visits one day, then working alongside a remedial team on tank cleaning or other works.

You will generally work within your allocated territory, although occasional travel further afield may be required depending on business needs.

A large proportion of routine PPM work will involve working independently, while larger tank cleaning and remedial projects will generally be completed as part of a team.

The role is predominantly daytime, Monday to Friday, although occasional out-of-hours work may be required. This is currently relatively rare, and there is also the opportunity to undertake additional weekend work and overtime.
