Job Overview: 
Put Your Cost Accounting Expertise Behind Manufacturing on a Larger Scale. Join our growing manufacturing operation in the greater Buffalo, NY area as a Cost Accountant, where your financial insight will help drive decisions in a complex manufacturing environment. Our facility manufactures a diverse range of large-scale Multi Stage Geared (MSG) air compressors and aftermarket remanufactured products that support customers across a variety of industries. As a key member of the finance team, you’ll play an integral role in the facility’s financial operations—maintaining accurate cost accounting processes, supporting business decisions, and driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive reliable and meaning Standard Costing within the plant including:
    • Daily costing updates for manufactured and purchased parts
    • Execute the annual cost roll for material, labor and overhead
    • Supporting new product development cost estimates and analysis
    • Activities and analysis to improve overall accuracy of product cost
    • Analyze and report variances such as PPV, Labor, and Freight.
  • Partner with on-going cost reviews (monthly/quarterly models, manufacturing variances and all other cost analysis)
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities
  • Complete/Review monthly account reconciliations and financial performance analysis
  • Execute and Improve close processes and the environment of control
  • Monitor processes and controls relating to financial transactions, recommending and implementing improvements with the Controller and business partners.
  • Support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and work directly with internal/external audit teams\
  • Support Operations teams in project and productivity execution
  • Work closely with non-finance team members to drive cost improvements and analysis in all production activities (leveraging Lean manufacturing concepts in the pursuit of continuous improvements)
  • GRNI Process: Work with team to process GRNI, to keep within an acceptable level and in alignment with company policy.
  • Analyze/Report/Close Capital Projects
  • Partner in Annual Budget, Quarterly Forecasting, and Monthly Financial Projections.
  • Provide Meaningful Business Analysis
  • Support and execute ad hoc projects as assigned by the Plant Controller

Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment 
  • 2+ years of cost accounting experience 
  • 2+ years of experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications proficiently.


Core Competencies

  • Manufacturing Cost Accounting and Standard Costing: Demonstrated ability to maintain reliable standard costs for manufactured and purchased components, execute annual cost rolls, develop new-product cost estimates, and improve product-cost accuracy.
  • Cost and Manufacturing Variance Analysis: Ability to analyze and report purchase price variance (PPV), labor variance, freight variance, manufacturing variance, and other production-related cost drivers, translating findings into meaningful business analysis.
  • Financial Close, Reconciliation, and Internal Controls: Experience supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities; completing account reconciliations; reviewing financial performance; and improving accounting processes and the control environment.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership and Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and build productive working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to collaborate across Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, auditors, and other business partners to support cost analysis, financial reporting, productivity initiatives, and operational decision-making.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting, and Continuous Improvement: Experience supporting annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, monthly financial projections, capital-project analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives within a complex manufacturing operation.

Preferences:
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting large data sets.
  • Experience using SAP in a manufacturing or cost-accounting environment.
  • Professional certification such as:
    • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodology and its application to cost reduction and continuous improvement.

Travel and Work Arrangements 
  • This position is based onsite.
The pay range for this role $65,000 - $80,000 annually.The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate’s skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
