    Minimum Experience and Certification Required: Must hold one of the following: South Carolina Special Education Multi?Categorical, Behavioral Disabilities, or Emotional Disabilities certification. If out of state, candidate will need to file for reciprocity and show they have completed all necessary steps

    Position Summary

    1. Works under the school principal
    2. Implements district-approved special education curriculum
    3. Supports students with disabilities based on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
    4. Helps students access the general education classroom and succeed academically and socially

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Instruction & Student Support

    1. Provide specialized instruction based on each student’s IEP
    2. Modify lessons and use differentiated teaching strategies
    3. Support academics, behavior, social-emotional skills, and daily living skills

    IEP & Compliance

    1. Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs
    2. Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws
    3. Track student progress and adjust instruction as needed

    Classroom Environment

    1. Create a safe, structured, and positive classroom
    2. Promote respect, inclusion, and collaboration among students

    Collaboration

    1. Work with:
    2. General education teachers
    3. Parents/guardians
    4. Administrators
    5. Therapists and support staff
    6. Supervise and guide teaching assistants/paraprofessionals

    Additional Duties (Varies by Program)

    Depending on the role (resource, behavior support, preschool, etc.), you may:

    1. Provide behavioral interventions
    2. Support students with moderate to severe disabilities
    3. Assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, mobility)
    4. Use assistive technology or adaptive equipment

     

    Minimum Requirements

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (or related program)
    2. South Carolina teaching certification in Special Education
    3. Knowledge of:
    4. IEP development
    5. Special education law and compliance
    6. Instructional strategies for diverse learners
