Computational Pathology Scientist
Position Summary
The Computational Pathology Scientist will play a critical role in advancing digital pathology and biomarker discovery initiatives through the development, optimization, validation, and execution of computational pathology workflows and image analysis algorithms. This position combines expertise in histopathology, image analytics, machine learning, and data science to generate quantitative insights from complex tissue datasets and support translational research programs.
The successful candidate will work closely with pathologists, translational scientists, bioinformaticians, data engineers, and laboratory personnel to develop robust computational solutions that improve biomarker identification, tissue characterization, and data-driven decision-making. The role requires hands-on experience with whole-slide image analysis, machine learning applications in pathology, and commercial image analysis platforms such as Halo AI, Visiopharm, QuPath, and CellProfiler.
This individual will be responsible for ensuring analytical rigor, reproducibility, and scientific quality while contributing to the development of innovative computational pathology capabilities within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environment. Key Responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for ensuring analytical rigor, reproducibility, and scientific quality while contributing to the development of innovative computational pathology capabilities within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environment. Key Responsibilities
Computational Pathology & Image Analysis
- Develop, optimize, validate, and execute computational pathology algorithms for quantitative analysis of histological and whole-slide imaging data.
- Design image analysis workflows to support tissue characterization, biomarker quantification, cellular phenotyping, and spatial analysis.
- Develop automated image processing pipelines that improve throughput, reproducibility, and data quality.
- Analyze large-scale pathology image datasets using commercial and open-source digital pathology platforms.
- Support the development of image analysis methods for immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), multiplex imaging, and other tissue-based assays.
- Generate high-quality quantitative data to support biomarker discovery and translational research initiatives.
- Apply machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to histopathological image analysis challenges.
- Develop and optimize classification, segmentation, object detection, and predictive modeling algorithms.
- Perform feature extraction, model training, validation, and performance assessment.
- Evaluate algorithm performance using statistical methodologies and benchmark datasets.
- Collaborate with data scientists and bioinformaticians to integrate computational pathology outputs with other biological datasets.
- Support biomarker discovery programs by generating quantitative measurements from tissue samples.
- Collaborate with pathologists and translational scientists to identify biologically meaningful image-derived features.
- Contribute to assay development and biomarker validation activities.
- Interpret analytical results and provide scientific recommendations to project teams.
- Support preclinical and clinical research efforts through advanced image analysis methodologies.
- Establish and execute validation strategies for computational pathology algorithms.
- Perform quality control assessments to ensure analytical accuracy and reproducibility.
- Investigate and troubleshoot data quality issues, image artifacts, and workflow failures.
- Document validation procedures, results, and performance metrics.
- Maintain compliance with scientific and organizational quality standards.
- Support metadata reconciliation and integration activities associated with digital pathology workflows.
- Assist with development and testing of automated metadata ingestion workflows.
- Ensure image analysis outputs are accurately linked to sample metadata and study information.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to improve data accessibility and workflow efficiency.
- Contribute to integration of computational pathology workflows into enterprise image management systems.
- Prepare technical reports, validation summaries, protocols, and scientific presentations.
- Maintain detailed records of analytical methods, workflows, and results.
- Present findings to project teams, stakeholders, and scientific leadership.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and project governance activities.
- Contribute to publications, presentations, and scientific communications when applicable.
