Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Rail Systems Integration Consultant to support the development and delivery of integrated railway systems and civil infrastructure.

The role will provide technical integration expertise across multidisciplinary engineering and delivery teams, ensuring interfaces, requirements, risks and assurance activities are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the identification, management and validation of technical interfaces between railway systems, civil infrastructure and other disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain interface matrices, interface registers, Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and related integration documentation.
  • Support the development and validation of system requirements and ensure interface requirements are appropriately captured and resolved.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and delivery teams to ensure an integrated design approach.
  • Identify interface risks, develop mitigation strategies and monitor their resolution.
  • Support systems assurance activities, including integration-level reviews, compliance verification and risk-based assurance.
  • Review design submissions for compliance with applicable standards, technical requirements, codes and engineering principles.
  • Support the management of technical changes, deviations and variations and assess their potential impact on system integration.
  • Work with testing and commissioning teams to review plans, submissions and activities from an integration and compliance perspective.
  • Support the identification of system failures and improvement opportunities, using appropriate engineering and reliability analysis techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, project delivery, systems engineering, design, assurance, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of integration plans, technical documentation, standards and engineering processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to safety, reliability, availability, maintainability and system performance.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years' experience in railway systems integration or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience across the design, delivery, testing and commissioning, operation or maintenance of railway systems.
  • Experience working on complex rail or major infrastructure projects with multiple technical interfaces.
  • Professional engineering or technical certification would be advantageous.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including ISO 15288.
  • Knowledge of railway systems integration and EN 50126 / RAMS principles.
  • Experience with requirements, configuration and interface management.
  • Understanding of railway systems and civil infrastructure interfaces.
  • Knowledge of relevant railway, engineering, safety and regulatory standards.
  • Experience with reliability and systems analysis techniques such as FMECA, FRACAS, RCFA and RAM analysis.
  • Understanding of technical scope and change management.
  • Ability to assess design, engineering and assurance documentation against technical requirements.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering and project management software.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working across systems engineering, design, construction, assurance and commissioning, with the ability to understand complex technical interfaces and coordinate their resolution across multiple stakeholders.

They will be technically credible, highly organised and capable of translating systems engineering principles into practical project delivery outcomes.
