Position: Van Aide Paraprofessional / 1:1 Classroom Support
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Approximately 32.5–40 hours/week
Core School-Day Hours: Approximately 8:15 AM–4:30/5:00 PM depending on assigned van route

Linden Oaks is looking for experienced, passionate, and highly coachable paraprofessionals who are comfortable supporting students with moderate-to-severe needs, including students who may exhibit crisis-level aggressive behaviors.
This is not an entry-level school position. Candidates must have prior school-based experience and demonstrated experience working directly with moderate/severe student populations and significant behavioral needs.
IMPORTANT: All candidates MUST be pre-screened and approved by one of our Clinical Managers prior to submission to Linden Oaks. Recruiters should not make individual judgment calls or submit candidates prior to completion of the clinical pre-screen.
What the Role Looks Like
This is a hybrid classroom paraprofessional + van aide position.
During the school day, staff will support students within classrooms and may be assigned 1:1 with an individual student. Responsibilities can include:
  • Providing behavioral and instructional support to students with moderate/severe needs
  • Working 1:1 with assigned students when needed
  • Supporting students who may display significant or crisis-level aggressive behaviors
  • Assisting with de-escalation and implementation of established behavior-support strategies
  • Supporting toileting and other student personal-care needs
  • Following classroom, clinical, and behavioral plans
  • Taking coaching and direction from teachers, clinical staff, and school leadership
  • Maintaining a calm, professional presence during challenging student behaviors
Toward the end of the school day, staff taking a route will transition into a Van Aide capacity and assist with safe student transportation, including student pick-ups/drop-offs and behavioral support while students are in transit.
Hours & Van Route Options
Candidates have some flexibility based on their interest in transportation routes:
AM and/or PM Van Route: Approximately 35–40 hours per week, with the full day generally running around 8:15 AM–4:30/5:00 PM, depending on the route/day.
No Van Route: Approximately 32.5 hours per week for staff who opt out of AM and PM transportation routes.
Recruiter must confirm during screening whether the candidate is open to:
  • AM route
  • PM route
  • Both AM + PM routes
  • Classroom hours only / no route
Preference should be given to candidates interested in taking on transportation responsibilities when qualifications are otherwise comparable.
Required Experience
Candidates must have:
  • Prior school-based paraprofessional/student-support experience
  • Experience supporting a moderate-to-severe special education population
  • Direct experience working with students who exhibit significant and/or crisis-level aggressive behaviors
  • Comfort providing hands-on behavioral support within the scope of their training and the student's established plan
  • Comfort assisting with toileting/personal-care needs
  • Ability and willingness to work 1:1 with students
  • Strong reliability, professionalism, and attendance
  • Ability to receive feedback, follow established plans, and be coachable
Candidates without the required school and mod/severe behavioral experience should not be submitted.

The strongest candidates will be people who genuinely enjoy working with higher-needs students and understand that challenging behaviors are part of the population they are supporting.
Look for candidates who are:
  • Calm under pressure – does not become easily overwhelmed or reactive
  • Behaviorally experienced – can speak specifically about supporting aggressive/escalated students
  • Coachable – receptive to clinical direction and willing to adjust their approach
  • Patient and compassionate – maintains respect for students during difficult moments
  • Reliable – understands that consistency and attendance are critical in a 1:1/special education environment
  • Team-oriented – works effectively with teachers, clinicians, other paras, and transportation staff
  • Flexible – comfortable moving between classroom, 1:1, personal-care, behavioral, and transportation responsibilities
Client preference: Male candidates may be especially desirable for the current student-support needs; however, gender is not a requirement and should not be used to exclude otherwise qualified candidates. Recruit and evaluate candidates based on their experience, qualifications, and ability to safely perform the role.
