About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join a growing team. As the In-House Senior Lawyer, you will be providing strategic, high-quality, and independent legal services to the Negligence and Redress team. In this role, you will manage a varied and complex caseload, including historical abuse claims, personal injury, and other civil litigation matters. This role will have a significant impact on the legal services provided to the wider organisation.

What you'll be doing

1. Providing comprehensive legal advice and support to the Negligence and Redress team
2. Advise on complex civil litigation matters, including historical abuse and personal injury claims, aligning strategy with organisational priorities
3. Lead case strategy, coordinating with external counsel and internal stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes
4. Ensure compliance with all court processes, including filings, mediations, and trials
5. Identify and mitigate legal risks, providing clear and actionable advice to senior management
6. Monitor legislative developments and assess their impact on operations
7. Develop and deliver internal guidance, templates, and training to enhance stakeholder capability
8. Mentor, support, and collaborate with junior members of the Negligence and Redress team

What we're looking for

1. 5+ years of post-qualification experience, gained either in a respected law firm or an in-house legal team
2. Substantial experience in civil litigation and dispute resolution, including historical abuse claims, personal injury matters, and other complex disputes, with a strong understanding of risk, compliance, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
3. Proven ability to deliver pragmatic, high-quality legal advice, engaging effectively with operational teams and senior stakeholders to achieve clear, strategic outcomes.
4. The capability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, with the potential to supervise and coach more junior legal counsel
