Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer (Exchange Online & Collaboration)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer to lead the design, automation, security, and administration of a large-scale Microsoft 365 environment. This role is centered around Exchange Online, while also supporting the broader Microsoft collaboration platform, including SharePoint Online, Microsoft Purview, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 security services.

The ideal candidate has extensive enterprise experience with Microsoft 365, a strong automation mindset, and deep expertise in PowerShell and cloud administration. This individual will partner with infrastructure, security, and end-user support teams to build a secure, scalable, and highly automated collaboration environment.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft 365 Platform Administration

• Design, administer, and optimize enterprise Microsoft 365 services with a primary focus on Exchange Online.

• Implement scalable platform configurations that improve reliability, security, and operational efficiency.

• Ensure the overall health, availability, and performance of the Microsoft collaboration platform.

Exchange Online

• Administer Exchange Online, including:

  • Mail flow

  • Transport rules

  • Mailbox provisioning

  • Anti-phishing and email security policies

  • Transport configuration

• Lead Exchange migration initiatives, including:

  • On-premises to Exchange Online migrations

  • Tenant-to-tenant migrations

  • Hybrid coexistence planning

  • Post-migration validation and stabilization

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

• Develop automation using PowerShell, Bash, and Terraform.

• Build repeatable infrastructure deployments utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.

• Create automated workflows using Azure Automation, Logic Apps, and Power Automate.

• Utilize Microsoft Graph API for administration, reporting, and automation.

SharePoint Online

• Design and administer SharePoint Online environments.

• Implement governance standards around site architecture, taxonomy, metadata, permissions, and content organization.

• Support ongoing SharePoint modernization and collaboration initiatives.

Power Platform Governance

• Support enterprise adoption of Power Apps and Power Automate.

• Establish governance around:

  • Environment strategy

  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

  • Connector management

  • Citizen development best practices

• Help create a secure, scalable self-service automation framework.

Security & Compliance

• Administer Microsoft security and compliance technologies, including:

  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365

  • Microsoft Purview

  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

  • Information Protection

  • Sensitivity Labels

  • Retention Policies

  • eDiscovery

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot governance

• Partner with security teams to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Operational Excellence

• Develop self-service capabilities and automation that reduce manual administrative work.

• Document platform configurations, automation scripts, and operational procedures.

• Participate in an on-call rotation supporting Microsoft 365 services.

• Mentor service desk personnel and help improve operational maturity across the Microsoft platform.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of enterprise Microsoft 365 administration experience.

• Strong hands-on experience administering Exchange Online.

• Proven experience leading enterprise Exchange migration projects.

• Advanced PowerShell scripting skills.

• Experience with Bash scripting.

• Hands-on SharePoint Online administration and governance experience.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps and Power Automate).

• Experience implementing Microsoft Purview security and compliance solutions.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

• Experience utilizing Microsoft Graph API.

• Understanding of Git and CI/CD methodologies.

• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

• Automation-first mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments during mergers, acquisitions, or tenant consolidations.

• Terraform experience for Infrastructure-as-Code deployments.

• Experience implementing or managing a Power Platform Center of Excellence (CoE).

• Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment and governance experience.

• Microsoft certifications such as:

  • MS-102

  • AZ-104

  • SC-400

• Familiarity with ITIL or enterprise service management practices.

• Experience administering Microsoft Purview in large enterprise environments.
