Position Overview
We are seeking an NDT Technician 2 to join an aerospace manufacturing team supporting the inspection of high-quality aircraft components. This position is responsible for performing non-destructive testing (NDT) on a variety of sheet metal and aircraft components, identifying potential defects, accurately documenting inspection results, and ensuring all inspections meet company and customer specifications.
Years of experience are not required for this opportunity. However, candidates MUST have documented NDT hours and applicable NDT certification(s).
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in NDT inspection, understands aerospace manufacturing requirements, can interpret engineering drawings and inspection results, and is comfortable working with precision measurement equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform non-destructive testing on a variety of aircraft and sheet metal components.
- Process parts and accurately interpret NDT findings in accordance with company and customer specifications.
- Perform inspections using established NDT techniques and procedures.
- Work with Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI), Radiographic Inspection, and Digital X-Ray methods.
- Generate X-ray film for components with both simple and complex geometries.
- Work under direct oversight while performing conventional X-ray inspections and with limited oversight during FPI activities.
- Accurately document inspection findings and maintain required quality records.
- Create and revise NDT technique sheets in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Identify faulty manufacturing or inspection processes and communicate issues to the appropriate NDT Technician or Supervisor.
- Evaluate NDT methods and techniques and recommend improvements that enhance inspection efficiency, quality, and productivity.
- Support NDT Technician 1 personnel and provide assistance with inspection activities.
- Perform dimensional checks using calipers, micrometers, and other precision inspection equipment.
- Properly document quantities and inspection information within manufacturing planning systems and paperless timekeeping systems.
- Read and interpret written instructions, engineering drawings, sketches, schedules, manufacturing plans, and other technical documentation.
- Follow established aerospace quality, safety, and inspection procedures.
- Assist with demonstrating basic inspection operations to other team members when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must have documented NDT hours.
- Must possess applicable NDT certification(s).
- Certification/qualification in FPI, Radiographic Inspection, and Digital X-Ray Inspection is highly preferred/required based on applicable method assignments.
- Ability to read and understand manufacturing plans, engineering drawings, blueprints, and sketches.
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledge of shop mathematics and precision measurement principles.
- Ability to use inspection equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
- General understanding of aerospace manufacturing and NDT processes.
- Ability to identify potential inspection or manufacturing issues and escalate them appropriately.
- General knowledge of welding and forming processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection results.
- Ability to follow technical instructions, established procedures, and safety requirements.
Experience
Specific years of experience are not required.
Candidates may be considered with limited professional experience provided they have the required NDT training/hours and certifications.
