HIAB Driver (Class 4) / Customer Service – Nelson (Permanent full-time)
 
Tech 5 Recruitment is working with ITM, a long-standing, trusted building materials supplier in Nelson. They serve trade and DIY customers across the wider Nelson–Tasman region, and they're known for strong relationships and service that goes the extra mile.
 
They need a careful, experienced HIAB driver for their Nelson team. You'll deliver building materials to construction sites and use a crane to place loads safely, often in tight or awkward spots. You'll also be the friendly, dependable face of the business for the customers you meet each day.
 
No HIAB experience yet? Don't let that stop you
HIAB experience is a bonus, but it isn't a dealbreaker. If you're a careful, capable heavy vehicle driver with a strong safety mindset and great people skills, the team will train you to operate the crane with confidence.

About the Role
You'll drive a well-maintained, custom-built Class 4 truck fitted with a Palfinger crane and remote control system. Most of your day will be spent delivering to building sites, where accuracy, patience and good judgement matter as much as driving skill.
This role suits someone who takes pride in doing the job properly, respects the customer's site and never takes shortcuts with safety.

 
What you'll be doing

• Delivering building materials to trade and residential sites across Nelson–Tasman
• Using the HIAB crane to lift and place materials safely and accurately, including in tight or hard-to-reach areas
• Checking site conditions, loads and lift areas before starting work
• Handling tipper deliveries, collections and customer site returns
• Unloading and organising returned items and processing Return for Credit forms
• Providing friendly, helpful customer service on site, in the yard and in store
• Helping with sales, cash transactions and stock checks when needed
• Carrying out daily checks and basic upkeep of the truck, plant and equipment
• Being flexible with early starts or late finishes to suit customer projects

 
What you'll bring

• A current, clean and full Class 4 driver licence
• Proven experience driving heavy vehicles, including on steep, narrow or confined sites
• A HIAB unit standard, or strong experience with crane operation or safe loading and unloading
• Forklift licence with F endorsement and an OSH certificate (preferred)
• A careful, safety-first approach and a good understanding of health and safety requirements
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Good time management and the ability to plan your day around deliveries
• A reliable, flexible and professional attitude
