Toorak College is seeking a Catering Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic catering department. Working in a supportive school environment, you will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to thrive in your role and grow within the team.
Role & Responsibilities:
The Catering Assistant will support the Catering team in the delivery of efficient, high-quality food and beverage services across the School. The role contributes to the smooth operation of the School’s catering services, including dishwashing, cleaning, food preparation and services across various catering and dining areas, supporting the needs of students, staff and on-site Boarding House residents. Tasks may include:
The Catering Assistant will support the Catering team in the delivery of efficient, high-quality food and beverage services across the School. The role contributes to the smooth operation of the School’s catering services, including dishwashing, cleaning, food preparation and services across various catering and dining areas, supporting the needs of students, staff and on-site Boarding House residents. Tasks may include:
- Dishwashing and cleaning of commercial kitchen facilities.
- Provide efficient and timely front-of-house food and beverage service, including filling lunch orders and supporting food service for Boarding House students and internal catering requirements.
- Assist with basic food preparation and maintain appropriate food and stock levels.
- Maintain a strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures, ensuring these standards are consistently followed.
- Participate in relevant training to develop hospitality skills and knowledge and contribute positively to the catering team.
- Work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, reliability and a strong customer service focus.
This is a permanent part-time position of approximately five (5) days per week, Monday to Friday (2:30pm – 5:30pm) during term time only. There is the potential to also work extra hours for events and functions when needed or to cover absences within the team.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, be customer oriented, organised and will have:
- Previous experience in a hospitality, catering or commercial kitchen environment.
- Current Food Handlers' Certificate - Level 1, RSA Certificate is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, use initiative to achieve results with a customer service focus.
- Possess a high level of physical fitness sufficient to meet the demands of the role, you will be on your feet consistently.
- A valid Working with Children Check (Employer)
- Current driver's licence.
