Job Summary
Are you an experienced CNC Machinist looking for an opportunity to put your setup, troubleshooting, and machining skills to work? We're seeking a skilled CNC Horizontal Mill Setup Operator to join our team in Elkhart, IN.
In this role, you'll set up, troubleshoot, and operate Toyoda and Okuma Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs) to produce quality parts according to established specifications and production rates. The ideal candidate has strong CNC machining experience, understands machine codes and technical drawings, and takes pride in producing precise, high-quality work.
What You'll Be Doing
As a CNC Horizontal Mill Setup Operator, your core responsibilities will include:
Machine Setup Operation: Set up and operate HMC machining centers to complete daily work orders, including mounting, aligning, and securing tools, fixtures, attachments, and workpieces.
Tooling Fixtures: Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments to properly install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and workpieces.
Programming Technical Skills: Read and interpret component prints and technical drawings and work with Okuma G Codes and Toyoda M Codes.
Quality Inspection: Perform first-piece and hourly inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers to ensure parts meet established quality standards.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve machining and equipment issues before they negatively impact production or product quality.
Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance according to established schedules and equipment requirements.
Production Efficiency: Consistently produce quality parts while meeting established production rates and daily work order requirements.
5S Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean and organized work area while following established 5S and workplace organization standards.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
3+ years of CNC Machinist experience required.
Proven experience setting up, troubleshooting, and operating HMC machining centers.
Toyoda and/or Okuma HMC experience required.
Trade school degree preferred.
Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring devices.
Working knowledge of Okuma G Codes and Toyoda M Codes.
Ability to read and interpret component prints and technical drawings.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for machining operations.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of preventative maintenance requirements for HMC equipment.
Ability to work independently and maintain established production rates.
Excellent attendance and dependability.
Skills
CNC Setup Machining: Strong understanding of HMC setup and machining processes with the ability to produce quality parts to established specifications.
Toyoda Okuma Equipment: Experience setting up, troubleshooting, and operating Toyoda and/or Okuma Horizontal Machining Centers.
Quality Precision: Ability to accurately inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment.
Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret component prints, drawings, specifications, and machining requirements.
Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical and machining problems.
Productivity: Ability to work efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain established production rates.
Workplace Organization: Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area according to 5S standards.
Teamwork Communication: Ability to communicate openly and effectively with coworkers and internal departments.
Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safe machining practices and established workplace procedures.
Physical Requirements
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
Ability to perform repetitive bending and stooping.
Ability to safely handle tools, fixtures, materials, and workpieces.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noisy, dirty, or unfavorable conditions.
