Mechanical Quality Coordinator

RobLawMax Recruitment has partnered with Lyttelton Engineering to appoint a Mechanical Project Documentation & Quality Coordinator for a major mechanical design and build project.
The scale of the project will generate a significant volume of engineering, fabrication, installation and compliance information. While these responsibilities would normally form part of the Project Engineer’s role, Lyttelton Engineering is creating a dedicated position to ensure documentation and quality requirements are effectively coordinated throughout the project.
This is not a traditional administrative document control role. You will need to understand mechanical engineering projects and be comfortable working with engineers, suppliers, fabricators and site teams.
The role
Working alongside the Project Engineer and wider delivery team, you will coordinate the technical, quality and compliance information required to successfully complete and hand over the project.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining project document, drawing and deliverables registers
- Coordinating engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and vendor information
- Managing document revisions, transmittals, reviews and approvals
- Tracking documentation against contractual and project requirements
- Coordinating Inspection and Test Plans and associated quality records
- Collating material certificates, weld records, inspection reports and pressure-testing documentation
- Following up suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams for outstanding information
- Supporting the management and closure of non-conformances and corrective actions
- Maintaining fabrication, installation and commissioning records
- Coordinating as-built documentation, O&M manuals and compliance certificates
- Preparing mechanical completion and final handover documentation
- Reporting on outstanding requirements and overall handover readiness
- Identifying incomplete or inconsistent technical information before it affects delivery
The precise scope can be shaped around the experience and capabilities of the successful person.
About you
You may be a mechanical or project engineer who has managed quality and documentation requirements while delivering industrial projects. Alternatively, you could come from a quality or documentation background with strong practical knowledge of mechanical engineering, fabrication and construction.
You will ideally bring:
- A mechanical engineering qualification or substantial experience working on mechanical engineering projects
- Experience within industrial construction, fabrication, process plant or mechanical design and build
- The ability to understand engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Familiarity with quality plans, ITPs, material certification, welding documentation and inspection records
- Experience coordinating technical information across engineers, suppliers and subcontractors
- Strong organisation, communication and stakeholder follow-up skills
- The technical judgement to recognise missing or incomplete project information
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint or a similar document-management system
Experience within food processing, dairy, pressure equipment or another regulated industrial environment would be valuable but is not essential.
The opportunity
This project-based position is expected to run for approximately two years. Lyttelton Engineering is open to considering different arrangements depending on the successful person, including:
- A two-year fixed-term position
- An independent contract arrangement
- Full-time or part-time hours
The flexibility could particularly suit an experienced mechanical or project engineer looking for a defined project assignment, reduced hours, or a role focused more heavily on project coordination and quality than engineering design.
