Position Details
Primary Purpose
Provide occupational therapy services to students with disabilities to improve their ability to participate in school activities (learning, writing, self-care, and classroom tasks) and meet their IEP goals.
Key Job Duties
1. Evaluation & Assessment
- Assess and document students’ educational and therapy needs
- Conduct screenings and identify students who need occupational therapy services
- Evaluate areas such as:
- Fine motor skills
- Sensory processing
- Coordination and daily living skills
2. Therapy & Intervention
- Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy programs
- Use innovative techniques and strategies to support student progress
- Provide therapy to improve:
- Handwriting
- Classroom participation
- Independence in school tasks
3. IEP Responsibilities
- Participate in IEP meetings
- Help develop therapy goals and services for students
- Deliver OT services according to IEP plans
4. Instructional Materials & Adaptations
- Develop or obtain specialized materials and supports for students
- Modify classroom tasks and environments to improve accessibility
5. Collaboration & Consultation
- Work closely with:
- Teachers
- Special education staff
- Other therapists (PT, SLP, etc.)
- Provide guidance on:
- Motor skills
- Sensory needs
- Adaptive equipment
6. Training & Staff Support
- Provide training and in-service sessions to school staff on:
- Therapy strategies
- Student needs
- Help staff implement supports in the classroom
7. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain records of:
- Evaluations
- Therapy sessions
- Student progress
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Georgia laws, and district policies
8. Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Georgia Occupational Therapist License/Certification
- Strong skills in:
- Assessment
- Communication
- Collaboration
- Ability to work across multiple school sites (itinerant role)
Key Skills
- Knowledge of:
- Motor development and sensory processing
- Special education laws (IDEA)
- Ability to:
- Develop therapy plans
- Adapt environments for accessibility
- Work in a multidisciplinary team
