Principal Botanist
Perth, WA | $140,000 - $170,000 + Super (negotiable) + Time in Lieu

My client is a newly launched environmental consultancy, formed by the senior leadership behind one of WA's most respected ecology and approvals teams. They've hit the ground running with a strong client base, a full order book, and teams covering ecology, bushfire, GIS, sustainability and approvals.

They're now looking for a Principal Botanist to lead the technical side of their flora and vegetation work and help grow the ecology team.

Here's what makes this one a bit different. It's not a business development role - the work is already there. What they actually want is a strong technical operator who enjoys mentoring people, signing off quality work, and being the person others come to with the hard flora questions. 

What you'll be doing:

• Leading flora and vegetation surveys, from reconnaissance through to detailed assessments
• Vegetation mapping, condition assessment and targeted threatened flora surveys
• Assessing TECs, PECs and Matters of National Environmental Significance
• Writing and reviewing reports under the EPBC Act, EP Act and BC Act
• Providing QA/QC and technical sign-off across the team's botanical work
• Mentoring and developing the botanists around you
• Working closely with clients, mostly on residential and industrial development projects

What they're after:

• A degree in botany, ecology, environmental science or similar
• Around 15 years' consulting experience (they'll also look at strong senior or associate-level people)
• Excellent WA flora ID skills, particularly across the Swan Coastal Plain and Jarrah Forest
• Good working knowledge of the EPBC Act, EP Act, BC Act and EPA guidance
• Someone who genuinely likes growing and looking after a team
• A rehab background would be a real plus
• Current WA driver's licence
