26/27 SY | Educational Interpreter

QUALIFICATIONS:  1.  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and special expertise in Educational Interpretation, or Associate’s degree from an accredited educational institution, expertise in Educational Interpretation, and a minimum of two years’ experience in the field. 2.   Proficiency in signing, understanding, and interpreting to students who require manual communication (sign language) to access a free appropriate public education, and related school activities. 3.  Proficiency in sign language to assist educational personnel with students who require sign language. 4.  Such alternatives to the above requirements as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 5.  Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Florida Statutes and State Board of Education Rules.       Required Skills:     6. Proficiency in American Sign Language.     7. Ability to comprehend instructions.     8. Ability to present information to hearing impaired students.     9. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers,                     fractions and decimals.              10. Ability to apply common sense understanding in carrying out            instructions.               11. Demonstrates a working knowledge of child development and          age appropriate behavior skills.                12. Ability to work as a team member, to serve as a role model,             and to maintain confidential information.
