Community Engagement Advisor

About the role

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Community Engagement Advisor to join a leading public sector organisation on a long-term temp position through to June 2027, with potential extension beyond.

This role will see you working across several high-profile infrastructure projects that have a direct impact on local communities, stakeholders and the broader public. You will play a key role in supporting project delivery teams, contractors and service providers to ensure communities are informed, consulted and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can confidently engage with technical stakeholders, and has experience delivering engagement activities on complex infrastructure or capital works projects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver community engagement and communications activities across major infrastructure projects
• Act as the key liaison between project teams, contractors, service providers and impacted communities
• Review and oversee contractor-led engagement activities to ensure obligations and commitments are met
• Identify and manage reputational and community risks associated with project delivery
• Prepare engagement materials, stakeholder communications and project updates
• Support community information sessions, pop-up events and stakeholder meetings
• Assist with door-knocking and community outreach activities where required
• Build effective working relationships with engineers, project managers and external stakeholders
• Manage competing priorities across multiple projects simultaneously

Skills & experience

• Demonstrated experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement or communications within an infrastructure, construction, utilities, transport, local government or major capital works environment
• Experience working on projects in the delivery phase of major infrastructure programs
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to confidently engage with technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience managing contractors, consultants or external service providers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work autonomously while effectively keeping key stakeholders informed
• A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage changing priorities
