As part of the Information Technology Directorate (ITD), the Cyber and Information Security Branch plays a critical role in protecting the systems and technologies that support our client's services. We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Specialist to strengthen our cyber security capabilities and support the ongoing uplift of our technology environment.

About the Role
As the Cyber Security Specialist, you will provide hands-on technical cyber security support across operational and project activities, focusing on network security, vulnerability management, security monitoring, cyber security infrastructure, and Microsoft security technologies.
Working closely with infrastructure, network, applications, and project teams, you will help deliver secure technology outcomes while supporting the department's evolving cyber security landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical cyber security support across QFD systems and infrastructure.
• Support DNS security administration and related technical activities.
• Review and manage firewall rules, network access controls, and security configurations.
• Conduct vulnerability identification, assessment, prioritisation and remediation activities using Rapid7.
• Support ongoing Microsoft 365 security uplift initiatives.
• Manage certificate lifecycle activities, including renewals, implementation and troubleshooting.
• Support the implementation and optimisation of Microsoft Sentinel SIEM, including monitoring, alerting and log management.
• Perform technical security reviews and provide practical security advice to ICT teams and projects.
• Contribute to cyber security change assessments, implementation reviews and assurance activities.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, project teams and external vendors to drive secure technology outcomes.

About You We are looking for a technically strong cyber security professional with demonstrated experience across several of the following areas:

Essential Experience

• DNS security and administration.
• Firewall technologies, configuration and rule management.
• Vulnerability management using Rapid7.
• Certificate management and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
• Microsoft Sentinel SIEM administration and security monitoring.
• Technical cyber security support within complex ICT environments.
• Microsoft 365 security technologies including:
  • Microsoft Defender
  • Microsoft Purview
  • Microsoft Intune

You will be able to:

• Apply contemporary cyber security knowledge in practical technical environments.
• Analyse technical security risks and recommend effective controls.
• Work collaboratively across infrastructure, network, applications, digital and frontline operational teams.
• Communicate cyber security requirements and risks to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.
