Barker Ross are currently recruiting on behalf of a client based in Nottingham and are looking for a Machine Shop Operator to join a busy manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on workshop role involving batch manufacturing, machining, modification and assembly work. You will operate a range of conventional workshop machinery to produce and modify components to drawings, specifications and required tolerances.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Operating workshop machinery safely and efficiently
• Carrying out machining, cutting, drilling, tapping and assembly work
• Producing and modifying components for small-batch production
• Working from engineering drawings, measurements and job instructions
• Setting and checking machinery and materials before starting work
• Carrying out quality checks to ensure work meets the required specification
• Completing production records and reporting any defects or issues
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
• Reporting equipment faults, maintenance requirements and safety concerns

Machinery

The role involves operating a variety of conventional workshop equipment, including:

• Harrison 400 & 500 lathes
• Bridgeport milling machine
• Capstan lathe
• Tube scalloper
• Prosaw LX250
• Pillar drills
• Tapping equipment
• Chop/circular saws

About You

We are looking for someone with previous experience in a machine shop, engineering or manufacturing environment, with practical experience operating workshop machinery.

You should be able to:

• Read and follow engineering drawings and technical instructions
• Take accurate measurements and work to specified tolerances
• Carry out basic machining and assembly work
• Work accurately with good attention to detail
• Follow workshop health and safety procedures
• Work independently as well as part of a team
• Learn and become competent across a range of different machines

Full training will be provided on the relevant machinery and processes, with competency assessed before working independently.
