Job Description:
The Millwright is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and equipment across the plant, ensuring the seamless operation of our manufacturing processes. This role supports production, engineering, and quality teams by minimizing equipment downtime and maintaining equipment to FAA, ISO, and customer standards, contributing directly to the quality and efficiency of our products.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting on machinery and equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues promptly while minimizing production downtime.
- Diagnose and repair defective parts with minimal interruption to production.
- Calibrate and test machinery and equipment to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the installation, assembly, and setup of machinery and equipment according to specifications and blueprints to ensure proper functionality and alignment with production requirements.
- Maintain plant equipment, including but not limited to:
- Specialized machines in Machine Shop I and II (mills, lathes, etc.)
- Lasers (in various departments)
- Chambers and vibration systems in the Environmental Room
- Conformal coating ovens and UV curing ovens
- Pick and place systems
- Solder systems (including wave solder machine)
- Injection molding machines
- Auto insertion machines
- Pneumatic cable machines
- SMT wash stations
- RO water system
- Nitrogen generator system
- Paint shop ovens
- ESD maintenance equipment (including bench and floor equipment)
- Air generator system
- Procure and maintain miscellaneous parts and accessories, such as magazines, tools, black boxes, stencils, microscopes, solder stations, UPS units, and respirator cartridges.
- Research alternative parts to expedite repairs.
- Train staff on the proper use of equipment and machinery to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with established processes and procedures.
- Create and document preventive maintenance and troubleshooting processes.
- Adhere to safety procedures and protocols when performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance in accordance with FAA and ISO 9000 standards, as well as Boeing and other customer requirements.
- Generate reports on maintenance schedules, equipment status, and issues encountered for documentation and analysis.
- Act as technical liaison with vendors, and source and order parts required for the maintenance or repair of plant equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in electronics, or equivalent military or technical trade experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a millwright or equipment technician in a manufacturing environment; avionics industry experience is a plus.
Job Skills Required
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics, as well as electrical systems.
- Ability to quickly learn new and continuously changing technologies with minimal training.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Able to use a variety of software to maintain, repair, and program equipment.
- Able to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards related to millwright tasks to ensure a safe working environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to support multiple projects while balancing priorities and schedules.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production personnel, and management, to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement manufacturing process improvements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily on the manufacturing floor and in machine shop areas, with occasional work in outdoor and other environmental conditions. The role involves regular exposure to operating machinery, moderate to high noise levels, and materials such as solder, coatings, and cleaning agents, with appropriate personal protective equipment provided. Flexibility to work occasional overtime, weekends, or off-hours is required to support production schedules and maintenance activities.
Physical Requirements
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Standing for most of the workday while performing essential functions.
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and reach as required to install, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, parts, and equipment, including power and precision tools.
- Visual acuity to read drawings and schematics, inspect parts, and ensure the accuracy and quality of work performed.
