Apply directFor the Family Lawyer Who Wants Their Work to Mean Something Again
You came to family law because you wanted to help people through the hardest moments of their lives. Somewhere along the way, the time sheets, the BD targets and the office grind started crowding that out. This role gives you the work back, with the flexibility to work around your life's circumstances.
The Organisation
Our client is one of the country's largest community legal services. A well-established, mission-driven organisation with a permanent team of 70+ and around 200 dedicated volunteers. They operate across the Eastern Seaboard with a network of offices and a recently opened site expanding their reach. A serious legal practice with the scale, stability and reputation to match any mid-tier firm, doing work that genuinely matters to the women and families they serve.
The Timing
Multiple roles are open across the practice, and the team is actively growing. The demand is real, and they're investing in lawyers who want a seat at the table, joining at a moment when the organisation is expanding its reach and deepening its impact.
The Work Itself
You'll be working with women navigating domestic violence, child protection and family law matters, often all three at once, often in crisis. Your days will mix telephone advice and video appointments. It's trauma-informed practice in the truest sense: legal expertise applied with care, judgment and an understanding of what your client is actually carrying when she reaches out. You'll work alongside some of the most passionate and talented female lawyers in the sector, in a team that takes both the law and the lawyers seriously.
Where You'll Land
A workplace culture lawyers actively seek out: collaborative and purpose-driven. No billables, no BD, no marketing. A generous salary package with salary sacrificing for more cash in hand. Flexible working arrangements that work in practice, not just on paper.
Sound Like You?
You're a family lawyer with at least 3 years PAE and a genuine background in family law and domestic violence, both essential. Experience in child safety and child support matters is highly regarded. You bring sound judgment and problem-solving skills, particularly in crisis situations where client safety is on the line, and you communicate effectively and sensitively with clients from diverse backgrounds. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills round out the profile.
Other Roles Available The team is also recruiting for two specialist positions:
- Migration Lawyer — supporting women on temporary visas experiencing domestic and family violence, with advice, casework and court representation. 4+ years PAE in migration law required.
- Advice Lawyer — a discrete advice-based role in family law and domestic violence, with greater flexibility around hours. Well suited to lawyers seeking structured hours, parents returning to practice, or those wanting less court intensity.
