About the Role
This isn’t a turnaround, nor is it a greenfield build.
The product is live. The engineering foundations are strong. The architecture is proven. Now comes the interesting part.
This mission-led HealthTech business is entering the next phase of its journey, shifting its focus from building a great product to scaling it, commercialising it responsibly and integrating more deeply into Australia’s evolving digital health ecosystem.
We’re looking for a hands-on CTO who can bridge technology, product and commercial thinking. Someone who still enjoys getting close to architecture and engineering, but can also help shape strategy, guide investment decisions and influence the future direction of the platform.
This isn’t a role for someone who’s become “post-technical”. It’s equally not a role where you’ll spend your week writing production code. It’s about knowing when to dive into the detail, when to coach, and when to step back and provide direction.
Whether you’re an experienced CTO, Head of Engineering, perhaps even a Principal Engineer or Lead Architect ready for a step up, you’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact while working alongside a passionate, highly capable team.
 
What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own the technology strategy and roadmap as the business enters its next phase of growth.
  • Help evolve an established digital product into a scalable, commercially sustainable platform.
  • Partner with executive leadership to shape technology investment, product direction and long-term strategy.
  • Guide software architecture and engineering quality while supporting a small internal engineering team and external delivery partners.
  • Lead interoperability initiatives, including healthcare integrations, APIs and modern data standards.
  • Drive pragmatic governance across cybersecurity, privacy, compliance and software quality.
  • Work closely with Product to understand customer feedback, product-market fit and future platform opportunities.
  • Stay close enough to the technology to unblock engineers, review architecture and provide hands-on technical leadership where required.
 
About You
You’re more than just a technical leader. You understand that building great software isn’t only about architecture. It’s about solving customer problems, making pragmatic decisions and helping teams deliver.
You’ll likely bring:
  • A strong software engineering background with experience progressing into architecture or technology leadership.
  • Experience shaping technology strategy while remaining technically credible.
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence without relying on hierarchy.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, modern software engineering practices and scalable architecture.
  • Experience working within regulated environments where security, privacy and governance matter.
  • An appreciation for building products, not just platforms, and understanding how technology supports commercial success.
  • Experience within HealthTech, FinTech or another highly regulated industry would be highly regarded.
  • Curiosity, humility and a willingness to roll your sleeves up when needed.
