Network Service Installation Technician
Location: Greater Washington, DC Metro Area
Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time
Travel: Daily local travel to customer locations throughout Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Network Service Installation Technician to provide onsite installation, deployment, migration, troubleshooting, and support services for enterprise network infrastructure environments. This technician will be responsible for delivering a wide variety of network installation services at customer locations, including network hardware deployments, structured cabling installations, wireless infrastructure implementations, rack and stack services, circuit turn-ups, device replacements, technology refreshes, and network migration projects.
The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on experience with enterprise networking technologies and can work independently while maintaining excellent customer service and project documentation standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Network Hardware Installation
- Install and deploy:
- Core switches
- Distribution switches
- Access switches
- Routers
- Firewalls
- SD-WAN appliances
- Network controllers
- Wireless LAN controllers
- Network appliances
- Load balancers
- Network monitoring devices
- Install network devices in racks and cabinets
- Perform hardware replacement and technology refresh projects
- Install and configure console servers and management devices
- Mount and secure equipment according to customer standards
Rack and Stack Services
- Rack and stack network equipment
- Install cage nuts, rails, shelves, and mounting hardware
- Label network devices and infrastructure components
- Verify rack elevations and equipment placement
- Perform cabinet cleanup and reorganization
- Install and relocate network cabinets
- Document rack elevations and equipment locations
Structured Cabling Services
Copper Cabling
- Install Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A cabling
- Terminate copper cabling
- Patch panel installation
- Patch cord deployment
- Cable dressing and management
- Labeling and certification
- Cable testing and validation
- MDF and IDF cabling support
Fiber Optic Cabling
- Install fiber optic backbone cabling
- Install multimode and single-mode fiber
- Fiber patch panel installation
- Fiber enclosure installation
- Fiber patching and cross-connects
- Fiber cleaning and inspection
- Light-level testing
- OTDR testing support
- Fiber documentation and labeling
Wireless Network Installation
- Install wireless access points (Client)
- Mount Client in ceiling and wall environments
- Install wireless antennas
- Wireless controller deployment support
- Wireless survey assistance
- Wireless coverage validation
- AP replacement and upgrade projects
- Support Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 deployments
Circuit Turn-Up and Connectivity Services
- Support ISP circuit installations
- Coordinate with telecommunications carriers
- Install demarcation equipment
- Extend carrier circuits to customer equipment
- Verify WAN connectivity
- Circuit testing and validation
- Support MPLS, DIA, Broadband, and SD-WAN deployments
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues during activation
Network Migration Services
- Network cutover support
- Equipment replacement projects
- Switch migration activities

- Site relocation support

Smart Hands Network Support
- Cable tracing and verification

Network Testing and Validation
- Copper certification testing

Troubleshooting Responsibilities
- Diagnose Layer 1 connectivity issues
- Troubleshoot cabling faults
- Resolve physical network infrastructure issues
- Identify hardware failures
- Assist engineers with Layer 2 troubleshooting
- Assist with Layer 3 troubleshooting
- Validate switchport functionality
- Escalate complex issues appropriately
