Operating across laboratories, teaching facilities, fieldwork, campuses and regional locations, the organisation manages a broad and complex risk profile. The Head of Health and Safety – Performance and Improvement will lead the evolution of the organisation's health and safety management framework, driving improvements in governance, assurance, systems, reporting and organisational performance.
This is a strategic leadership role for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complexity, influencing senior stakeholders and delivering meaningful organisational change.

The Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the ongoing development and governance of the health and safety management system
- Driving the organisation's critical risk, assurance and compliance frameworks
- Overseeing safety systems, reporting and performance metrics to improve organisational insight
- Leading the health and safety improvement program, ensuring initiatives are prioritised and deliver measurable outcomes
- Partnering with senior leaders to strengthen risk management capability and governance
- Driving assurance activities, audits and control effectiveness across the organisation
- Identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve user experience and strengthen safety capability
- Leading and developing a high performing team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
You are an senior health and safety leader who has successfully led performance, systems or assurance functions within large, complex organisations.
You combine strategic thinking with a practical approach and are comfortable working across diverse stakeholder groups to influence outcomes and drive lasting improvement.
You'll Bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading health and safety management systems and governance frameworks
- Strong knowledge of risk management, assurance and critical risk programs
- Experience using data and reporting to influence performance and support decision making
- A track record delivering large scale improvement or transformation initiatives
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive level
- Experience leading and developing teams in complex environments
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic leadership style
