  • Position Details

    Position Summary

    1. Provides comprehensive psychological services in assigned schools
    2. Supports students’ academic progress, mental health, and behavior
    3. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team for special education and student support
    4. Performs assessment, counseling, consultation, and interventions in compliance with laws like IDEA and Section 504

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Assessment & Evaluation

    1. Conduct psychoeducational evaluations (learning, behavior, emotional functioning)
    2. Help determine eligibility for:
    3. Special education (IEP)
    4. 504 plans
    5. Analyze data and write detailed reports for teams and parents

     

    Special Education Support

    1. Participate in IEP meetings and eligibility decisions
    2. Ensure compliance with federal and state laws (IDEA, Section 504)
    3. Monitor student progress and recommend services or changes

     

    Counseling & Mental Health

    1. Provide:
    2. Individual counseling
    3. Small group counseling
    4. Address issues such as:
    5. Anxiety, depression
    6. Behavior problems
    7. Social/emotional development
    8. Offer crisis intervention when needed

     

    Intervention & Behavior Support

    1. Develop and implement:
    2. Behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
    3. Academic and social-emotional interventions
    4. Support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
    5. Help teachers manage classroom behavior effectively

     

    Collaboration

    1. Work closely with:
    2. Teachers
    3. Parents/guardians
    4. Administrators
    5. Special education teams
    6. Outside agencies
    7. Provide consultation and training to staff on student needs

     

    Crisis & School Support

    1. Respond to:
    2. Mental health crises
    3. Behavioral emergencies
    4. Help promote a safe, positive school climate
    5. Support school-wide prevention programs (behavior, bullying, mental health)

     

    Minimum Requirements

    1. Graduate degree in School Psychology (Master’s + 30 hours minimum; doctorate preferred)
    2. Completion of a school psychology internship
    3. South Carolina certification as a School Psychologist
    4. Strong knowledge of:
    5. Child development
    6. Psychological assessment
    7. Special education law
