  • Lead weekly planning, mine control and short-interval execution at CSA Mine
  • Permanent 2 weeks on weeks off roster, FIFO from Brisbane or Sydney
  • Join one of Australia’s deepest and highest-grade underground copper mines
CSA Mine is located approximately 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar in central western New South Wales. Extending to a depth of around 1.9 kilometres, CSA is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines and its highest-grade copper operation.

CSA Mine is part of Harmony Australasia. Harmony is South Africa’s largest gold producer by volume and has an expanding portfolio of copper and gold assets across Australia and Papua New Guinea. Its regional portfolio includes CSA Mine, the Eva Copper Mine Project currently under construction in Queensland, Hidden Valley Mine and a 50% interest in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project.

The role:

This is a key leadership position responsible for translating the monthly mine plan into practical weekly schedules, controlling daily execution and ensuring emerging constraints and variances are identified and addressed.

The position would suit an operationally minded engineer who is fast paced, understands backfill constraints, understands ventilation principles, has seen what good mine design looks like and is able to take all the information that is happening across the site (maintenance, mill, paste plant, technical, ops etc) and then develop the weekly schedule.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team spanning mine control, operations engineering and development execution and work back-to-back with another experienced superintendent.

About You:

To be successful, you will bring the following skills, experience and personal attributes:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering.
  • Substantial underground hard-rock mining experience and a strong understanding of mine operations, production constraints and work-front interactions.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating short-term mine planning, weekly scheduling, shift execution and schedule variance management.
  • Strong proficiency with Deswik CAD and Deswik Sched.
  • Experience with mine control and production-tracking systems such as Pitram or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and operational data-management capability.
  • Experience leading mine control, planning, production engineering or operational-support teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-engagement skills across operations, technical services, maintenance and site leadership.
  • An analytical approach to operational performance, risk assessment, variance review and recovery planning.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make timely, well-informed decisions within a dynamic underground environment.
  • Experience working for a mining contractor would be beneficial OR able to demonstrate technical aptitude but also be operationally minded.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary, including eligibility to participate in Harmony’s bonus scheme.
  • Permanent position working an attractive 2 weeks on 2 weeks off roster.
  • FIFO travel available from Brisbane or Sydney.
  • Opportunity to lead a critical operational function at one of Australia’s deepest underground mines.
  • Career-development opportunities within a growing international mining organisation.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives, including access to gym and pool facilities for employees and their dependants living in Cobar.
  • Join an expanding Australian business with exposure to the high-growth commodities of copper and gold.
