Apply directAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Ledger Manager / Senior Accountant to join a high-performing Financial Operations team within a leading organisation within the public sector. This role is an initial 12 month contract to cover maternity leave.
Reporting to the Financial Operations Controller, this role has overall responsibility for the General Ledger function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records in line with internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to drive financial governance, lead process improvements, and partner with stakeholders across a complex operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee financial data management and journal postings within the SAP General Ledger
- Lead month-end and period-end close processes, including operational settlement cycles
- Maintain and enhance accounting controls, policies, and the chart of accounts
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, cash, and other key accounts
- Oversee fixed asset accounting and SAP asset module administration
- Manage domestic and international payment processes, including foreign currency transactions
- Support tax compliance activities (PAYE, PRSI, payroll-related reporting)
- Administer and reconcile credit card and incoming payment processes
- Ensure robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained and updated
- Prepare and submit statutory returns, including CSO reporting
- Lead, coach, and develop the General Ledger team
- Act as a key liaison with banks and financial institutions
- Provide financial guidance to internal stakeholders across multiple functions
- Support internal and external audits
- Contribute to SAP system enhancements and finance process improvements
- Support finance operations relating to fleet and leasing activities
About You
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong experience in General Ledger oversight within a complex organisation
- Proven expertise in balance sheet reconciliations and fixed asset accounting
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with SAP (including Fixed Assets module) is highly desirable
- Background in multinational, infrastructure, or PLC environment is advantageous
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders across the business
