Finance Business Analyst

MAYDAY Recruitment is excited to be partnering with a well-established Queensland not-for-profit organisation to recruit a newly created Finance Business Analyst position.

And whilst the title says Finance Business Analyst, this is not your traditional Finance BA role.

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant / Finance Analyst who is highly data-driven, loves getting into the detail behind the numbers and wants the opportunity to step into a broader analytical role.

Reporting to the Lead Financial Accountant, you'll be part of a small, collaborative finance team and have the opportunity to genuinely influence how financial data is reported, understood and used across the organisation.

What you'll be doing

You'll have a really diverse mix of accounting, reporting and analytical responsibilities, including:

• Supporting month-end reporting, reconciliations, journals and financial commentary
• Preparing weekly, monthly and rolling cashflow reports
• Analysing financial data to identify trends, risks and opportunities
• Building and maintaining financial models for forecasting, scenario planning and decision-making
• Supporting annual budgets and ongoing forecast updates
• Developing dashboards and automated reporting to make financial information easier to understand
• Preparing audit-ready schedules and supporting year-end processes
• Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the ERP
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting
• Building strong relationships with stakeholders and helping them understand the story behind the numbers

About you

You might currently be an Assistant Accountant, Financial Analyst, Management Accountant or similar, and be looking for an opportunity that gives you more exposure to the analytical and commercial side of finance.

You'll be someone who:

• Loves data and naturally looks for the story behind the numbers
• Is highly analytical and enjoys interpreting information rather than simply reporting it
• Has strong Excel skills and ideally exposure to Power BI or other reporting tools
• Has a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and financial reporting
• Is commercially minded and comfortable questioning, investigating and problem-solving
• Is proactive, curious and always looking for a better way of doing things
• Can build strong relationships and communicate financial information in a clear, easy-to-understand way
• Has excellent attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture

A degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA/CA or progress towards a qualification, along with experience using TechnologyOne or a similar ERP, will be highly regarded.
