Be a Force for Good at the Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA)

Are you a purpose-driven leader with a passion for education, conservation and operational excellence? The Jane Goodall Institute Australia is seeking an exceptional Head of Programs & Operations to help lead the next chapter of our growth.

JGIA is transforming the way young Australians learn about, connect with and care for the natural world. Through their ambitious Education for Earth initiative, they are embedding environmental education into mainstream learning, with a bold vision to reach every Australian school through world-class curriculum, teacher professional learning and Jane Goodall's globally recognised Roots & Shoots program.

Based at the iconic Taronga Zoo, you'll help scale one of Australia's most ambitious environmental education initiatives, building the partnerships, programs and operational capability needed to create lasting, nationwide impact.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the CEO and forming part of the organisation's leadership team, you will take ownership of JGIA's Australian program portfolio, leading the growth and development of initiatives that connect young people with conservation, sustainability and environmental action. Key priorities include:
  • Driving the growth of the flagship Education for Earth initiative.
  • Expanding and strengthening Roots & Shoots, Jane Goodall's globally recognised youth action movement.
  • Building and activating a highly engaged volunteer network.
  • Developing partnerships with schools, educators, community groups and key stakeholders.
  • Creating operational systems, structure and processes required to support growth.
  • Supporting Africa Programs portfolio.
This role will suit someone who enjoys building, improving and scaling programs rather than simply maintaining them. Success will come from the ability to identify opportunities, engage people, mobilise resources and translate ideas into action.

About You
You are a capable and commercially minded program leader who combines strategic thinking with a genuine passion for environmental education, conservation, sustainability, youth development or social impact. This role is likely to resonate with someone who:
  • Brings positivity, enthusiasm and a genuine belief that change is possible.
  • Is deeply inspired by creating a better future for animals, people and the environment.
  • Has successfully scaled programs to achieve mainstream, high-volume impact.
  • Understands that lasting impact requires both passion and good commercial judgement.
  • Loves bringing people together, building partnerships and creating momentum.
  • Knows how to engage and empower people - volunteers, supporters and communities.
  • Enjoys working in a growing organisation where initiative, creativity and action are valued.
How to Apply
Few roles offer the chance to combine purpose, leadership and growth in quite the same way. If you're excited and inspired by the opportunity to build, grow and scale programs that make a genuine difference for animals,  people and the environment, please apply today with your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience in relation to this role.
