JOB TITLE: Engineer, SR Designer

LOCATION: Draper, UT

SCHEDULE: Standard Business Hours

DURATION: 3-Month Contract (Potential Extension up to 6 Months)

PAY: Up to $37-42/hour

Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced Production Tooling Designer to support the design and development of custom manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and jigs used in production processes. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product development teams to create innovative tooling solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety.

• Design custom tooling, jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment using CAD software.
• Transform engineering concepts and specifications into detailed manufacturing drawings and assemblies.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, NPD, and Quality teams to transition products from development into production.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement design improvements.
• Recommend design modifications to improve manufacturability, performance, reliability, and cost.
• Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and maintain CAD documentation.
• Present design concepts and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

• Create 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using parametric modeling software.
• Design complex production fixtures while considering manufacturability, safety, performance, and reliability.
• Review engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
• Identify design issues and recommend improvements throughout the validation process.
• Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and document technical justifications.
• Maintain CAD Product Data Management (PDM) systems and drawing standards.
• Provide GD&T guidance and advise engineers on critical dimensions and fabrication considerations.
• Develop and present design proposals to engineering and project teams.
• Support prototype development using 3D printing and CNC machining when needed.
• Work closely with vendors and internal teams to ensure tooling designs meet manufacturing requirements.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Strong proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CAD PDM.
• Advanced knowledge of 2D and 3D parametric modeling.
• Thorough understanding of ASME Y14.5M-2018 GD&T standards.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
• Experience with tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of machining, molding, fabrication, and material properties.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Experience with rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing and CNC machining.
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills:

• Electrical drawing or electrical design experience.
• Medical device manufacturing experience.
• Experience with CE Mark certification and EU regulatory requirements.

Education & Experience:

• Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design, or a related field preferred.
• 8+ years of Production Tooling Design or Mechanical Design experience required.
• Extensive experience designing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and jigs.
• Strong CAD design experience required.
