An exciting opportunity is available to join the Community Living Supports (CLS) Program with a highly respected not-for-profit organisation.
We are seeking passionate Aboriginal Mental Health Community Support Workers / Peer Workers who can draw on their lived experience, cultural knowledge and connection to community to provide meaningful, culturally safe support.
In this role, you will walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing mental health challenges, supporting recovery, independence and wellbeing while strengthening connections to culture, community and Country.
IMPORTANT: This is an identified position under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
About the Role
As an Aboriginal Mental Health Community Support Worker, you will provide culturally safe, person-centred and recovery-oriented support through the Community Living Supports Program.
Drawing on your lived experience and cultural knowledge, you will build genuine and respectful relationships with the people you support, empowering them to work towards their individual recovery goals.
Your support may include assistance with daily living, emotional wellbeing, social and community participation, navigating services and strengthening connections with family, culture and community.

Key Responsibilities
Culturally Safe Peer Support
- Deliver culturally safe, recovery-oriented support aligned with the CLS model
- Draw on lived experience appropriately to support healing, wellbeing and resilience
- Build trusting, respectful and meaningful relationships with the people you support
- Assist with daily living skills, emotional wellbeing and social connection
- Support connection to Country, culture and community
- Encourage choice, independence and self-determination
- Maintain an active caseload and meet service delivery requirements
- Build relationships with Aboriginal Medical Services, Elders and community organisations
- Connect people with culturally appropriate services and community supports
- Advocate for culturally safe and responsive service delivery
- Support opportunities for customer feedback, participation and co-design
- Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Peer Workers and multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in cultural supervision, reflective practice and ongoing learning
- Maintain professional boundaries and safe peer-work practices
- Contribute to the co-design and continuous improvement of culturally responsive services
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Follow organisational policies, procedures, WHS and risk management requirements
- Identify and report incidents, risks and concerns appropriately
You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who is passionate about supporting others within your community.
You understand the importance of culture, identity, community and connection in mental health and recovery. You bring empathy, resilience and strong cultural knowledge, along with the ability to establish meaningful relationships while using your lived experience safely and purposefully.
You Will Bring
- Lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
- A strong understanding of mental health within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts
- Knowledge of cultural protocols, community structures and culturally safe practice
- The ability to build trust and meaningful connections within community
- Confidence in drawing on your lived experience to support others while maintaining professional boundaries
- Strong communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills
- A commitment to culturally safe, person-centred and recovery-oriented support
- Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches
- Strong problem-solving skills, resilience and adaptability
To be considered for this opportunity, you will require:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or relevant industry experience
- Minimum 12 months' experience within a CLS program or similar community-based program
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and person-centred practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support people with complex needs with confidence, compassion and professionalism
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and relevant reporting systems
- Current NSW Driver's Licence
- Working with Children Check
- National Police Check issued within the required timeframe
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Ability to safely meet the inherent physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 10kg
