The BIM Coordinator plays a vital role in enhancing project delivery processes within my client’s architectural practice.

This position extends beyond model coordination, focusing on improving workflows, maintaining information consistency, and supporting teams in delivering high-quality, model-based outputs efficiently.

Working closely with project teams and senior leadership, the BIM Coordinator will help embed best practices across ArchiCAD-based workflows while contributing to the continued development of the practice’s digital strategy.

Key Competencies, Skills & Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline (MA in Architecture or equivalent preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a BIM Coordinator within the UK commercial sector, ideally gained within a medium to large architectural practice.
  • Strong understanding of current BIM workflows, processes, and industry requirements.
  • Proven experience using ArchiCAD within an architectural environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the UK BIM Framework, including ISO 19650 and associated standards.
  • Understanding of the Information Management Mandate and UK BIM Framework.
  • Experience with ArchiCAD is essential; familiarity with Solibri, Rhino, Grasshopper, and Revit interoperability is advantageous.
  • Strong practical experience in clash detection and issue management.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and project specification management is desirable.
  • Good understanding of file exchange procedures, uploads/downloads, and management within a Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Collaborative, approachable, and enthusiastic team player.
  • Passion for continuous learning and keeping up to date with BIM developments and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to understand and map design workflows across all RIBA stages.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • BIM Management & Support
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all ArchiCAD, CAD, and BIM-related queries within the practice.
  • Support project teams in developing and implementing modelling strategies aligned with project-specific BIM requirements.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining ArchiCAD software, templates, protocols, and libraries across the practice.
  • Help ensure project compliance with BIM standards, industry requirements, and collaborative workflows involving consultants, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Provide day-to-day troubleshooting and technical support for ArchiCAD-related issues.
  • Support the BIM Manager in maintaining practice-wide BIM manuals and project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).
  • Project Responsibilities
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and propose practical improvements.
  • Support structured information management across all project stages.
  • Reduce duplication and rework through improved model and data coordination.
  • Assist Project Leads and Design Teams in establishing project goals, workflows, and BIM implementation strategies to meet contractual obligations.
  • Maintain project BIM documentation including BEPs, TIDPs, BRMs, and related records.
  • Implement digital standards consistently across assigned projects.
  • Liaise with client BIM advisors and external design team BIM Coordinators to manage coordinated BIM models and project documentation.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on BIM models.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent library of ArchiCAD objects and components.
  • Promote modelling best practices to support 3D, 4D, and 5D project delivery.
  • Deliver BIM-related training and technical support to project teams.
  • Training & Development
  • Conduct ArchiCAD inductions for new team members and support ongoing staff training initiatives.
  • Stay informed of BIM regulations, standards, and industry developments, sharing relevant updates with project teams.
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation relating to BIM coordination, compliance, and project delivery requirements.
  • Collaboration & Coordination
  • Work closely with Job Runners and project teams to define BIM deliverables and improve interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Assist with federated model coordination and clash detection using software such as Solibri.
  • Participate in BIM and CAD coordination meetings and contribute to the development of standardised workflows across the practice.
  • Liaise with the IT team regarding software updates, licensing, and server management associated with BIM processes.
  • Quality Assurance & Standards
  • Ensure ArchiCAD models are maintained in accordance with agreed modelling standards and quality procedures.
  • Assist in updating and refining ArchiCAD templates and libraries to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Support the BIM Manager in reviewing project workflows and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance on visual outputs and presentation standards, including model-based drawings and 3D visualisations.

Workflow & Process Improvement

  • Identify inefficiencies within project workflows and recommend effective improvements.
  • Support structured information flow throughout all RIBA stages.
  • Minimise duplication and rework through enhanced model and data management practices.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of practice-wide digital standards, workflows, and BIM processes.

My client is a highly respected architectural practice specialising in traditional and progressive classical architecture alongside contextual urbanism. Led by an experienced executive team and design directors with distinct design approaches, the practice delivers a diverse portfolio of work across the UK and internationally.

Projects include new-build town and country houses, renovations, extensions, heritage and listed buildings, as well as commercial, healthcare, office, residential, and large-scale masterplanning developments. The practice is recognised for combining traditional architectural principles with innovative and collaborative project delivery methods.
