Apply directHorizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Property Accountant to provide full-cycle accounting support for a portfolio of commercial and retail properties. This role helps ensure accurate financial reporting, strong cash management, timely tenant billings, and reliable financial information for property teams and clients. The successful candidate will also provide guidance and mentorship to property accounting staff.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements in line with accounting standards, budgets, policies, and client requirements.
- Perform budget-to-actual analysis, investigate variances, and resolve outstanding accounting issues.
- Manage monthly bank reconciliations, receivables reporting, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Monitor property cash positions, including major expenditures, mortgages, payroll, management fees, taxes, capital and leasing costs, and owner distributions.
- Reconcile and remit GST/HST and other applicable taxes and assessments.
- Support tenant invoicing, reconciliations, property setups, sales and turnover closings, and other property accounting activities.
- Complete year-end operating cost reconciliations and tenant billings within required deadlines.
- Track operating cost reconciliation progress across the portfolio and address issues that may affect timelines.
- Prepare accounting components of annual operating budgets and assess changes in accounting treatment.
- Coordinate budget completion and tenant notices to ensure they are delivered on schedule.
- Maintain accurate and complete property accounting records and files.
- Work closely with property teams and other stakeholders to resolve accounting and property-related questions.
- Train, guide, and mentor property accounting staff on accounting processes, procedures, and property files.
Requirements:
- Enrolled in the CPA program.
- 4-5 years of accounting experience.
- 2-3 years of commercial or retail property accounting experience, including:
- Full-cycle property accounting
- CAM and tax recoveries
- Financial statement preparation
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff is an asset.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Comfortable adapting to new processes, ideas, and changes in a dynamic work environment.
- Successful completion of a criminal verification check is required for employment.
Remuneration:
- $90,000 - $100,000 Base + Bonus
