About the Role

Zoom is building a next-generation AI platform powering products such as Scribe, Interpreter, Summary, Vision, and Deep Reasoning. This platform integrates multiple AI capabilities across teams and geographies, with core backend services (e.g., ASR, Translation, inference optimization) primarily developed in China and platform/API development led by a US-based team.
We are looking for a China-based AI Platform Engineer who will serve as a technical anchor between US and China teams, working as a strong individual contributor to deliver production-ready AI platform capabilities. This role is critical to ensuring effective cross-site execution, system reliability, and high-quality delivery across dependent services.


 

What You’ll Do

  • Act as a technical bridge between US-based AI platform teams and China-based backend services (ASR, Translation, Inference, etc.)
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of AI platform features (Scribe, Interpreter, Summary, Vision, Deep Reasoning) across multiple dependencies
  • Design and implement core API and orchestration layers that integrate multiple AI services into a cohesive platform

  • Work closely with backend teams on:

    • Capacity planning and scaling
    • SLA definition and reliability
    • Performance optimization and inference efficiency
    • Production issue debugging and resolution
  • Participate in on-call / operational support across time zones, ensuring system stability and fast incident response
  • Contribute hands-on to both backend and (where needed) frontend components, ensuring end-to-end system quality
  • Translate high-level architecture from US teams into actionable design and execution plans for China-side development
  • Improve system observability, reliability, and developer productivity across the platform
     

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend and distributed systems background
  • Proven ability to operate as a hands-on senior IC while coordinating across multiple teams
  • Experience working in cross-team and/or cross-region environments, with strong communication and execution skills

  • Solid experience in:

    • API design and service integration
    • Cloud-native systems (Kubernetes, microservices)
    • Performance, scaling, and reliability engineering
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive end-to-end delivery in ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated experience in production debugging and incident handling (latency, throughput, failure isolation)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, startup-style environment
  • Fluent in both Chinese and English, with ability to collaborate effectively across global teams
     

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI/ML systems (inference, ASR, NLP, etc.)
  • Familiarity with LLM-based systems or agentic workflows
  • Frontend experience (React or similar) to support end-to-end delivery
  • Experience with large-scale API platforms or developer-facing services
