Unaccredited Surgical Registrar - Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery

An excellent opportunity is available for a suitably experienced doctor to join an established Ear, Nose and Throat surgical unit as an Unaccredited ENT Registrar for the 2027 clinical year.

Based at a major regional teaching hospital in Bendigo, this 12-month appointment offers broad experience in ENT, Head and Neck Surgery. The position provides valuable inpatient, outpatient, operative and consultation experience within a supportive environment committed to clinical education and professional development.

The role would suit a doctor seeking to strengthen their surgical experience and develop the clinical and technical skills required for a future career in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery or another surgical specialty.

The Position

The ENT Registrar will contribute to the assessment and management of patients with a wide range of ear, nose, throat, head and neck conditions.

Clinical responsibilities will include:

• Assessing and managing ENT inpatients
• Reviewing patients in public outpatient clinics
• Providing ENT consultations to other hospital departments
• Participating in ENT operating theatre sessions
• Assisting with elective and emergency surgical procedures
• Assessing referrals from the Emergency Department and other clinical units
• Supporting senior medical staff in the coordination of patient care
• Supervising and supporting junior medical officers
• Participating in clinical handovers and multidisciplinary discussions
• Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Contributing to audit, clinical governance and quality-improvement activities
• Participating in the weekend on-call roster

The successful applicant will work closely with consultant surgeons, junior medical staff, nurses, allied health professionals and other specialty teams.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess:

• A medical degree recognised in Australia
• Current or eligible medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
• Postgraduate clinical experience appropriate for appointment at registrar level
• Previous surgical experience
• Sound clinical assessment and patient-management skills
• A demonstrated interest in ENT and Head and Neck Surgery
• Effective communication, teamwork and organisational skills
• The ability to supervise and support junior medical staff
• A commitment to clinical education, patient safety and continuous improvement
• The ability to participate in the required on-call roster
• Compliance with all occupational health and immunisation requirements, including the required influenza vaccination

Previous experience in ENT, general surgery or a related surgical specialty would be advantageous.
