Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support inventory accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close activities in a manufacturing environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, inventory reconciliation, and cost accounting while supporting budgeting, analysis, and internal controls.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, experience with journal entries and reconciliations, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting activities.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting worksheets.
- Maintain daily records for inventory-related transactions and perform monthly inventory reconciliations.
- Manage metal receiving activities and maintain accurate records for inventory reporting and billing.
- Prepare and record journal entries related to inventory receipts, including purchase price variances.
- Maintain and update monthly production worksheets for melting and casting activities.
- Record production activity by alloy and prepare journal vouchers.
- Analyze financial activity for accuracy and reasonableness, discussing significant variances with management before posting.
- Assist with the preparation of annual departmental budgets by expense category.
- Perform detailed financial analysis and expenditure reviews as requested.
- Review general ledger activity for accuracy and prepare adjusting journal entries when necessary.
- Issue and maintain documentation for physical inventory processes.
- Perform monthly reconciliations between Oracle and AS400 systems and prepare any required adjusting entries.
- Support inventory and cost accounting procedures related to internal self-assessment and compliance initiatives.
- Assist with special projects, research, and financial reporting requests.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (BBA or BBS with Accounting major required).
- Minimum of 2 years of finance or accounting experience, including:
- Journal entries
- Account reconciliations
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly:
- Excel
- Word
- Access
- Experience working with computerized financial reporting systems and query tools.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting processes.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support several stakeholders simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
- Experience with Oracle, AS400, or similar ERP systems.
