Senior Cyber Security Advisor

Are you an experienced Cyber Security professional with a strong advisory background and expertise supporting complex, highly regulated environments?

We are seeking a Senior Cyber Security Advisor to join our client AGL on a contract basis. This is a strategic role responsible for providing expert cyber security guidance across business and technology initiatives, helping strengthen cyber resilience and protect critical infrastructure against an evolving threat landscape. This is an initial six month contract, based in Melbourne in a hybrid working environment.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across business and technology teams, you will play a key role in identifying, assessing and managing cyber security risks while ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements and organisational policies.

About the Role

As a trusted cyber security partner, you will provide strategic advice and leadership across a broad range of initiatives, ensuring security considerations are embedded into decision-making, transformation programs and operational activities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide expert cyber security advice across strategic and operational initiatives.
• Identify, assess and manage cyber security risks across technology and business projects.
• Partner with business leaders, technology teams, subsidiaries, vendors and external stakeholders to strengthen cyber security outcomes.
• Develop, implement and maintain cyber security policies, standards and guidelines.
• Ensure alignment with relevant cyber security regulations, legislation and industry frameworks.
• Communicate cyber security risks, priorities and technical debt to executive and business leadership teams.
• Deliver cyber security awareness activities, workshops and mentoring sessions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support compliance initiatives and drive improvements in security posture across IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
• Develop reporting and metrics to measure cyber security maturity and effectiveness.
• Act as a senior point of escalation and provide leadership support when required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong cyber security advisory experience, excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business outcomes.

You will ideally have:

• Demonstrated experience leading cyber security advisory and consulting engagements within Public Sector and/or Government environments.
• Proven experience across Cyber Security, IT/OT Security, Technology Risk or Information Security.
• Strong understanding of Australian cyber security legislation and regulatory requirements, including the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act and Privacy Act.
• Experience working with recognised industry frameworks and standards such as:
  • NIST Cyber Security Framework (CSF)
  • ISA/IEC 62443
  • MITRE ATT&CK
  • D3FEND
  • Australian Energy Sector Cyber Security Framework (AESCSF)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong programme and project delivery experience.
• Proven ability to communicate complex cyber risks in clear business language.
• Experience in risk management, governance and compliance environment.
