Morgan Consulting are partnering with a highly successful, growth-oriented organisation who is embarking on a greenfield build of its data capability from the ground up. With strong executive backing and committed investment, this is a rare opportunity to shape and lead the data function from inception.

This role offers the chance to combine strategic leadership, architectural ownership, and hands-on technical delivery while working closely with senior stakeholders to define and execute a long-term data vision.

The Opportunity

This is a foundational leadership hire, suited to someone who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building capability from scratch. Rather than inheriting a large team, you will start as an individual contributor with broad ownership across strategy, design, and execution.
Initially, you will collaborate with external advisors and internal stakeholders to define high-value use cases, assess business impact, and shape the roadmap. From there, you will lead MVP delivery and progressively scale the data capability.
The current technology function is lean, with reliance on third-party vendors. A key objective is to transition towards a more internally owned and scalable data ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead the enterprise data strategy and roadmap
• Build a greenfield data platform (including data lake, warehouse, and reporting layers)
• Remain hands-on with development, including ETL pipelines, data modelling, and integrations
• Consolidate and unify data across multiple disparate systems into a scalable architecture
• Partner with external advisors (initial phase) to identify and prioritise high-value use cases
• Translate business requirements into impactful data solutions
• Deliver an initial MVP capability and define future-state architecture
• Engage with senior executives and key stakeholders
• Design and build out the data team as capability scales
• Reduce reliance on external vendors by growing internal expertise

What You Bring

• Experience as a Head of Data building a data function from scratch
• Proven track record building or scaling data platforms, ideally in greenfield environments
• Strong technical data expertise and skilled at creating MVP, Use cases, short term and longer term data strategy
• Exposure to tools such as Python, Power BI, Tableau or similar
• Ability to balance hands-on delivery with strategic thinking
• Experience working with senior stakeholders across the business
• Comfortable operating in lean, evolving environments
• Pragmatic, outcomes-driven mindset with a focus on delivery
