The Opportunity
An outstanding opportunity exists for an experienced Lead Contracts & Cost Administrator to take ownership of the commercial administration function for a major mining development project.
Reporting into senior project leadership, this role will be responsible for leading contract administration, cost control, claims management and commercial governance across a diverse portfolio of project packages. The position will play a critical role in ensuring contractors are effectively managed, costs remain controlled, commercial risks are identified early and project delivery remains aligned with approved budgets and schedules.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strong commercial acumen and practical project delivery experience, ideally gained within mining, infrastructure or large-scale resource developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead contract administration across major project packages from tender and award through to close-out and final account
- Develop and implement commercial governance frameworks, procedures, approval workflows and reporting systems
- Support procurement and tender processes including commercial evaluation, negotiation and contract award
- Manage contractor claims, variations, delay events and commercial disputes
- Maintain contract registers, commitments, accruals, forecasts and cost-to-complete reporting
- Review payment claims, milestone achievements and contractor performance against contractual obligations
- Provide commercial oversight of logistics, mobilisation, camp services, fuel supply and remote site support activities
- Support cashflow forecasting, commercial risk management and monthly project cost reviews
- Build productive relationships with contractors, consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders
- Mentor and develop commercial team members while promoting a culture of accountability and commercial discipline
About You
You are an experienced commercial professional who has successfully supported the delivery of major mining, resources, infrastructure or construction projects through strong contract administration, cost control and contractor management practices.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in contracts administration, commercial management and cost control within mining, resources, construction or major capital projects
- Demonstrated success managing high-value contracts through tendering, award, execution, claims resolution and final account settlement
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret contracts, assess risk, negotiate outcomes and protect project value
- Experience administering a range of contract models including lump sum, schedule of rates, reimbursable and target cost arrangements
- Proven capability managing contractor claims, variations, extensions of time and commercial disputes
- Strong cost management skills, including commitments, accruals, forecasting, cashflow reporting and cost-to-complete analysis
- The ability to work collaboratively with project controls, engineering, procurement and site-based teams
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to engage effectively with contractors, suppliers and senior leadership
- A practical, solutions-focused approach suited to complex and remote project environments
Experience working on remote mining developments, international projects or projects with significant logistics challenges will be highly regarded. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Business, Law or a related discipline are expected.
