Harris Hill is working in partnership with a leading organisation supporting people living with HIV to recruit a Welfare Rights Advisor. This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven team providing practical advice, advocacy and support to help people navigate complex welfare and benefits systems and maximise their income.

The role is predominantly remote, with the successful candidate required to attend HIV clinics across central London one day per week, usually for a half day, as part of an outreach-based service. The position is offered on a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension, and can be full-time or part-time, with a minimum commitment of two days per week.

As Welfare Rights Advisor, you will provide high-quality one-to-one welfare benefits advice and support to clients, assessing their needs, developing action plans and helping them access the financial support to which they are entitled.

You will support clients with welfare forms, advocacy and tribunal attendance where required, while also making appropriate referrals to other specialist services. The role will involve working closely with health and social care organisations, delivering outreach in HIV clinics, organising workshops and training sessions for frontline professionals and NHS staff, and providing updates to colleagues on welfare and benefits legislation.

You will also support and develop volunteers, contribute to drop-in sessions and ensure that client records, monitoring information and reports are maintained accurately and effectively.

You will be a qualified welfare rights adviser with at least two years’ experience providing welfare and benefits advice to vulnerable groups, alongside a strong understanding of the UK welfare and benefits system.

You will bring excellent communication, numerical and IT skills, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while working independently. Just as importantly, you will be empathetic, patient, tactful and emotionally resilient, with a genuine commitment to equality and the rights of people living with HIV.

Experience of casework systems, volunteer support, group facilitation or specialist areas such as housing, debt management or income maximisation would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Salesforce or languages in addition to English.
