Our client is a highly regarded international banking institution with a significant presence in Australia and global operations across major financial markets. As part of its continued growth and commitment to strong governance, the organisation is seeking an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel to lead its legal advisory function and partner with senior executives across the business.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced banking or financial services lawyer to step into a highly visible role with broad exposure across legal, regulatory, governance and commercial matters.
Reporting into the senior executive for the Risk & Compliance function, you will act as the organisatoins principal legal advisor, providing commercially focused legal counsel that supports strategic decision-making, business growth and effective risk management.

Working closely with executive leadership, business heads and key stakeholders, you will advise across a diverse range of matters including:
Banking and financial services law
Commercial contracts and strategic projects
Financing and transactional matters
Treasury and trade finance activities
Corporate governance and legal risk management
Regulatory change and compliance obligations
Disputes, litigation and investigations
External legal counsel management

The role offers genuine breadth and influence, with the successful candidate playing a key role in helping the business achieve its commercial objectives while maintaining strong governance and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities for the position include;
Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and business stakeholders.
Support complex transactions, business initiatives and organisational projects.
Advise on legal, regulatory, governance and contractual matters.
Lead and enhance legal risk management frameworks, policies and controls.
Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business.
Oversee litigation, disputes, investigations and regulatory inquiries.
Manage relationships with external law firms and legal service providers.
Contribute to governance forums and executive decision-making processes

This opportunity would suit individuals with;
Approximately 5+ years' post-qualification experience.
Experience gained within a leading law firm, financial institution and/or sophisticated in-house legal environment.
Strong expertise in banking, finance, financial services or regulatory law.
Demonstrated experience managing complex legal and commercial matters.
The ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
A collaborative and influential stakeholder management style.
Strong communication skills and executive presence.
