Apply directWe are seeking a Senior Consultant to bring their procurement expertise and infrastructure sector knowledge to a strategic advisory setting, supporting central and local government clients across New Zealand's critical infrastructure programmes.
You will develop outcome-driven procurement solutions for government agencies and their delivery partners, supporting clients with procurement planning and delivery across operational service contracts and major capital works programmes spanning transport, water, energy, and social infrastructure.
You will work closely with other consultants and leaders across the business. Our projects are usually team-based, both short and long term, and may involve working in-house with our clients and from our offices. We also support work from home days.
About you / Ko wai koeYou will have a strong understanding of how government agencies — central and local — plan, fund, and deliver infrastructure programmes. You will bring knowledge of a range of procurement approaches and their risks and benefits, and critically, your experience will have been gained working within a consultancy or advisory environment, rather than purely in an internal procurement function.
Your background will ideally span one or more of the following sectors: transport, water, energy, or community and social infrastructure. You will bring practical insight into how agencies plan, contract, and manage outcomes across complex, multi-stakeholder programmes.
You will demonstrate initiative and the ability to manage multiple deadlines, with a strong history of delivery. You will have the flexibility to work across a range of projects, including areas outside your direct experience.
We are looking for someone with sound judgment, proven critical and strategic thinking, and the ability to solve problems in real time — developing solutions that create efficiency, deliver insights, and add value to clients' programmes and business objectives. You will be proactive in building internal relationships as well as in client management.
To be successful in the role you will:- Be degree qualified with at least 7 years' relevant experience.
- Have hands-on experience procuring operational service contracts or capital works contracts gained within a consultancy or advisory firm — covering procurement planning, market engagement, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
- Bring a working understanding of how central and local government agencies operate, including governance structures, funding frameworks, and stakeholder expectations.
- Have sector exposure across one or more of transport, water, energy, or social and community infrastructure.
- Demonstrate good judgment and the flexibility to work across a range of projects and service areas beyond your specialist background.
- Write and deliver accurate, engaging reports and presentations tailored to your audience.
- Analyse and interpret complex information and data to develop clear, practical recommendations.
- Manage project delivery from planning and content development through to time, budget, and resource management.
- Bring existing business development instincts — supporting proposals, contributing to client relationships, and helping grow the practice.
