This is a specialist opportunity within a purpose-driven legal service for an experienced family lawyer with 4+ years PAE who is ready to apply their technical skills in one of the most meaningful practice contexts available.
The Organisation
Women's Legal Service Queensland is one of the state's most respected purpose-driven legal services, supporting women impacted by domestic and family violence. Since 2021 the organisation has more than doubled in size and established a dedicated Temporary Visa Program to support women on temporary visas navigating the intersection of migration, family law and protection issues. It is known for strong supervision structures, a collaborative culture and a genuine commitment to sustainable legal careers.
The Timing
The Temporary Visa Program is an established and growing specialist practice within the organisation. They are looking for an experienced family lawyer who can manage complex matters with autonomy, work collaboratively across internal practice areas and deliver holistic outcomes for some of the most vulnerable clients in the legal system.
The Work Itself
Family law and domestic violence matters at the intersection of migration and protection issues. Court representation across the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and Magistrates Court, including duty lawyer work for domestic violence matters. Complex, technically demanding casework carried out within a trauma-informed practice framework. No billable targets. No business development expectations. Just the work.
Where You'll Land
A collaborative environment with flexible working including one to two days from home and/or work school hours. Structured supervision, additional Christmas and New Year leave and attractive salary packaging options that meaningfully increase your take-home pay.
Sound Like You?
A family lawyer with 4+ years PAE and demonstrated experience in domestic violence law. Sound knowledge of family law and DV frameworks, DV duty lawyer accreditation highly regarded, and the interpersonal capability to work sensitively with clients from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Migration law experience or genuine interest in developing it will be well regarded.
