About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced HSEQ Manager to take full ownership of health, safety, environment, and quality across a specialist HV EPC contractor delivering substation, BESS, and high-voltage connection projects across Australia. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who can hit the ground running and manage the full breadth of HSEQ across the business from day one. You will be equally comfortable on site and behind a desk, balancing documentation, compliance, and systems with a strong operational presence. There is a clear pathway for a coordinator to sit beneath this role as the business continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities of the HSEQ Manager

• Take full ownership of HSEQ across the business, covering all active projects and corporate functions.
• Develop, implement, and maintain HSEQ management systems, policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Provide strong on-site presence across HV substation, BESS, and connection projects, identifying and managing site-specific risks.
• Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and client requirements across all project environments.
• Build and maintain a strong safety culture across site teams, subcontractors, and the wider business.
• Manage relationships with clients, regulators, and subcontractors on all HSEQ matters.
• Lead and support pre-qualification, auditing, and continuous improvement processes.
• Prepare and present HSEQ reporting to senior leadership.
• Support future growth of the HSEQ function, with a coordinator role anticipated as the business scales.

What You Can Bring as the HSEQ Manager

• Proven experience in an HSEQ management role within an EPC or HV construction environment — essential.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage construction risks, including substation, BESS, and HV connection scopes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage HSEQ across both site operations and business-level documentation and systems.
• A strong character with high emotional intelligence and the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
• Capable of stepping into the role immediately and operating independently without requiring significant onboarding.
• Experience developing and maintaining HSEQ management systems from a practical, operational standpoint.
• Solid knowledge of relevant Australian WHS legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
• Sydney based — preferred.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, safety, or a related discipline.
